Ryt debit cards, physical and virtual

The problem

Plenty of people had opened a Ryt account, but creating a card was buried in settings. Most never found it.

The flow had grown through several rounds of changes: inconsistent states, unclear entry points, and no clear difference between virtual and physical cards.

Choosing between a virtual and a physical Ryt card

01 · Choosing a card

Virtual or physical, chosen in one step.

Card creation moved into account activation, with the real card art and one page of benefits instead of a carousel.

Adding the Ryt card to Google Pay

02 · Google Pay

Adding to Google Pay is part of creating the card.

It used to be a push notification people missed. Now it comes right after the card is made, when people are most likely to add it.

03 · Card controls

Freeze, settings and transactions sit on one screen.

When a payment was declined, people couldn’t find the controls. Now everything is one tap from the card.

In the press

“This virtual card is great for online shopping.”
August 2025
“We absolutely love the sleek, premium look of the physical card.”
Hakem Hassan · August 2025

What I learned

Cards and Google Pay took off once they moved out of settings and into moments people were already in.
